| Brief History Voltek is a project of Sam Barker. Sam began making electronic music ten years ago, from a background of playing so called 'real' instruments in bands, Early inspiration came from listening to John Peel on the radio, and what he could find in the library's 'Electronic Music' section, which included Aphex Twin's 'Selected Ambient Works' and a compilation of Steve Reich's early material. Initially relying on computer software, Sam soon found the appeal of synthesizers, four track recorders and drum machines. He bagan playing in improvised electronic bands at free parties in the Bedfordshire area, and took inspiration from this rebellious and hedonistic culture. He still jams as often as possible, and has made many unreleased recordings with notable artists such as Tim Exile, Leafcutter John, DMX Crew, Chevron, Scotch Egg, Ove Naxx, and more (You can look on the download page for some examples). Computer technology has played a bigger part in the Voltek sound recently; Sam has made a rule-based sequencer for live use in Max/MSP, which he continues to develop, bringing a bigger spectrum of noises into the music. He has since been striving to improve the quality of his sound, the ideas that created them, and the interface in between. The goal is the ultimate pleasure available through sound and music, and Sam continues to be motivated by others that share this belief. He currently lives in Brighton, UK.
